This grain-based drink dates back to the Spanish Golden Age and has the creaminess you’d expect from milk, but without a trace of lactose. As a bonus, this traditional drink is super easy to make and customize at home.

Today the most popular horchata variants are based on Mexican recipes, which are mostly based on white long grain rice. However, it is unlikely that the earliest horchata recipes included rice. Why do we say that? Just look at the name! “Horchata” is related to a Latin word that refers to barley.

While barley is making a comeback in the traditional grain sector, grabbing a bag of rice is easier for most people. However, to make our recipe a little healthier, we opted for cooked brown rice. Not only does brown rice have more fiber than white rice, it also has a shipload of vitamins and minerals.

As with our other CBD cocktail recipes, feel free to experiment with different preparation methods for your horchata. For example, some people like to add nuts like sliced ​​almonds to get a “nutty” flavor. You can also add a dollop of coconut milk for a little tropical flair. ingredients

• 3 cups of purified water

• ½ cup) sugar

• 1 cup of cooked brown rice

• 1–2 cinnamon sticks, crushed

• 1 drop of Tribe CBD oil

• ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

• Put all ingredients in a bowl

• Mix until everything is mixed well

• Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it rest overnight

• The next day, put the rice mixture in a blender

• Flash until it is smooth

• Pour the horchata through a nut milk strainer

• Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to five days

While you could strain your horchata through a cheesecloth, most bartenders highly recommend looking for a product called a “nut milk sachet.” While these mesh bags have a fun name, when it comes to your safety, they are serious: slivers of cinnamon or almond are unlikely to seep through them.

Of course, if you’re not comfortable with whole cinnamon sticks, you can replace them with a few teaspoons of ground cinnamon. As always, please use the ingredients that you feel most comfortable with.
