For chiropractors treating their clients on an ongoing basis, part of the follow-up care by the client should include a CBD topical
Chiropractors provide much more to their clients than simply adjustments! They take a comprehensive total body approach when it comes to patient care and treatments outcomes. As clients come in with their newest aches and pains from working hard at the gym, playing a sport on the weekend, or just doing some yard work, chiropractors have many options in their toolbox as they design a treatment plan for their clients to provide relief. There are two plans of attack, the office visit, which provides immediate relief, education, and the maintenance program they send home with their clients in between office visits. At the office, once they have adjusted and realigned their client, they will move to looking at the soft tissue structures around the joint or body part to improve the strength, flexibility, and mobility to support the affected area.
When it comes to soft tissue, chiropractors will dig deeper into their toolbox and pull out a number of modalities to attack the problem. Three of these are Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Manipulation (IASTM), Cupping, and Soft Tissue Manual Manipulation (Deep Tissue Massage). These protocols should be followed up with some basic exercises and stretching to maximize the benefits and stabilize. A range of exercises can be viewed at this link: Education & Training – CBD Healthcare Company
All three protocols focus on improving the fascial system to help with optimizing muscle function and enhancing movement quality. When increasing one’s power or performance, it is important to decrease muscle restriction (adhesions), which increases the muscle’s ability to produce force. Another benefit of reducing muscle adhesion is increased range of motion around the joints which improves mobility.
Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) is an effective myofascial release and massage technique used during chiropractic treatments. IASTM is a newer type of treatment that involves using metal or plastic tools to improve soft tissue mobility around your joints. These tools have a special shaped to help your chiropractor efficiently massage and mobilize your muscles, fascia (the collagen covering your muscles), and tendons. IASTM will help eliminate the restrictions in the fascia, decrease your pain, and improve your daily movement quality.
Cupping therapy is not new. It has been around in some form for thousands of years. Cupping is an excellent method for treating tight, restricted muscles that create pain due to being over worked or from poor posture. Cupping involves placing a plastic, silicon, or glass cup over the affected body part and creating suction into the cup. These protocols will improve blood circulation to the area treated resulting in decreasing muscle spasms, breaking up adhesions, and flushing the area in new blood to promote cellular repair. These treatments are fun to look at since it leaves a reddish colored circle on the skin for a short period of time. After treatment people post their pic on social media.
Massage is the most common plan of attack of the three protocols for soft tissue treatment. Massage is the manual manipulation of all the body’s soft tissues, the muscles, tendons, fascia, and ligaments. Massage techniques are commonly applied with hands, fingers, elbows, knees, forearms, feet, and all the new massage devices. These devices consist of massage guns and massage sticks and rollers, among others. The chiropractor will use these massage devices for the purpose of preparing the body ready for the treatment at the clinic. At the beginning of the office visit the patient may get “tenderized” with the massage devices to get the client ready for the more intense treatments to follow. The chiropractor may also recommend that the client use one of these devices in between office visits to maintain the progress. Sometimes these devices are paired with a topical or salve so the massage device can drive the topical deeper into the skin to help with inflammation and pain.
Protocols like these (including IASTM, Cupping, Soft Tissue Manual Manipulation, Active Release Technique, Massage….) require the use of a topical and follow-up with some basic strengthening exercises and stretches to restore mobility and stabilize the affected joint. The addition of broad-spectrum CBD topical (note: THC free recommended for athletes) is complementary to these standard protocols as it enhances our endocannabinoid system’s (ECS) response to the therapy, resolving inflammation and accelerating recovery. Leveraging our 17-year history of servicing the professional therapeutics industry, the CBD Healthcare Company offers a comprehensive product line of professional grade CBD topicals engineered specifically to complement these protocols. Our products are designed to provide the appropriate glide/slide, higher CBD concentrations, and deep tissue penetration for delivery to the CB receptors in a product that provides both aromatherapeutic and physiological response without greasy residues or the overpowering odors from eucalyptus/menthol/camphor – based products.
For chiropractors who are treating their clients on an ongoing basis, we recommend that part of the follow-up care by the client should include a CBD topical salve that can significantly enhance the effectiveness of the treatment they are providing. The client can treat the affected area(s) with a twice daily application of a topical salve or lotion between sessions and/or as part of their daily flexibility, mobility, and strengthening regimens detailed in Education & Training – CBD Healthcare Company. The client’s interim self-care will keep the chiropractic treatment and their physical progress at the top of the client’s mind while at the same time providing retail opportunities for the practice.
For clients who are athletes or looking to improve their performance and wellness, as part of their interim care we recommend including a regimen that will continue the healing process, improving flexibility, mobility, and strengthening (stabilization) and reduce the probability of injury in the future. These regimens typically consist of a 5-step Pre-Event Activation Protocol:
Apply a CBD topical containing Capsaicin and MSM to affected areasInitiate pre-event or workout warm-up (low impact exercises that increase heart rate, increase body temperature, preparing the mind and body for more intense effort);Add rotations of the major joints (ankles, knees, hips, shoulders, Elbows, wrist, and neck);Static stretching to the joints and areas that feel tight or showing some resistance (1-3 static stretches and massage to loosen the area); andDynamic mobility exercises to test the joints to make sure they are free and easy – ready to go.
Finally, recommend that your clients use a Post-Work Out application of a CBD salve to the areas of tightness or soreness to improve recovery, restoration, and avoid injury. https://cbdhealthcarecompany.com/shop/
Why? Because our body has an internal mechanism for maintaining homeostasis (balance) called the Endo-Cannabinoid System (ECS). One of the purposes of this system is to recognize when something is out of balance and signal the body for restoration and healing. This system manages inflammation with respect to cellular trauma (induced by these treatment protocols) to enable the deployment of the white blood cells and collagen to the affected area for recovery, restoration/restructuring, and healing. While our body naturally produces its own cannabinoids, there are a number of factors that influence the ECS and body recovery time. External phyto-cannabinoids, such as those derived from the industrial hemp plant, supplement our ECS system and improve/accelerate the body’s ability to return to homeostasis – reducing downtime and improving performance. Documentation of hemp derived benefits go back as far as 2737 BC China, in the U.S. Pharmacopoeia until 1947, with significant on-going research investment since its national legalization in 2018.
CBD Healthcare Company focuses only on professional grade CBD topical formulations with products and protocols specifically aligned to the treatments described in this article. Important criteria for selecting a CBD topical product include:
Concentration of CBD in the product (mg./oz.)Product value – $/mg.Type of extract (isolate, broad or full spectrum),Plant pedigree/genetics,Planting (seeds vs clones). Clones ensure product consistency and the high concentrations provided by unfertilized female plants,Use of natural organic cultivation and ingredients,Extraction methodology (supercritical CO2, CO2 or ethanol),Quality Systems Certification (i.e. FDA GMP),Transparency and types of substance testing from the field to the body.https://cbdhealthcarecompany.com/about-us/; https://cbdhealthcarecompany.com/news-blog/
In summary, the incorporation of professional grade CBD topicals formulated for these treatments / protocols will improve and accelerate your patients’ results while also providing the opportunity to improve the economic profitability of your practice with in-house use as part of the protocol and subsequent retail sales.
