Jefferson Community College Appoints New Vice President for STEM and Healthcare Professions |  training

WATERTOWN – Jefferson Community College filled a vacancy in April and announced the appointment of Dr. Scott D. Schaeffer, DC, announced as Vice President Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and Healthcare Professionals.

Dr. Schaeffer is filling the position vacated by Linda Dittrich’s retirement and began his appointment at JCC on August 9th.

The Maryland native has taught biology at Harford Community College for the past 14 years and was responsible for developing anatomy and physiology learning modules for the HCC’s ineligible distance learning Histotechnology Certificate Program. On campus, he was a member of the Medical Assisting Advisory Board, Open Education Resources Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, MSCHE Self-Study Committee and many other bodies.

He has volunteered for Maryland Responds Medical Reserve Corps, Project Homeless Connect through United Way, Make a Wish Foundation and as a mentor at Aberdeen High School Science and Math Academy.

Dr. Schaeffer has been a representative of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and a peer reviewer since 2013. He is chairman of the MSCHE Committee for Applicants and Applicant Institutions and alternately vice chairman of the MSCHE Committee for Evaluation Reports. In the past he was vice chairman of the MSCHE Substantive Change Committee and is currently a member of the MSCHE Committee on Membership. MSCHE, an institutional accreditor, is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Before entering the university sector, Dr. Schaeffer has provided chiropractic care to patients of all ages for 11 years and has served as the Controlling Officer of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. He holds a PhD in chiropractic from the Palmer College of Chiropractic, Iowa.
