Before the marathon on October 3, 2021, Rob shared his reasons for running for the charity of his choice, St George’s Hospital Charity. In his words, this charity is “an amazing thing, especially when you consider how much we have relied on and appreciated the NHS over the past 18 months”. He highlighted a special aspect of the charity, the fact that they are in the process of fundraising for a “forget me” suite in the hospital that is supposed to be a special place for parents to grieve and last moments with theirs Parents to spend children in privacy after tragic losses. The redesign of this suite is designed to make a significant difference for families going through a difficult time.
Bryson went on to state that he has a personal connection to the matter as two friends spent time in the suite a few years ago after the tragic loss of their first stillborn daughter. These friends along with many others raised an impressive amount for the charity and he stated that he wanted to raise as much as possible for this great cause during the marathon. He also said that his goal was to run the marathon in 3 hours and 15 minutes or better, a challenging goal that he successfully achieved. He also thanked those who supported this cause and said, “I really appreciate your support and any contribution, large or small – thank you everyone!”
He also insisted that the muscle pain after the marathon wasn’t as bad as expected, but he made it a point to see one of the reflex massage therapists the morning after for effective sports massage therapy. Sports massage has many benefits, including increased blood flow to muscles, decreased muscle tension, and relief from aches and pains, muscle spasms, aches and pains, and sore muscles. It is common for runners to feel really sore in the first few days after the marathon due to delayed muscle soreness that can be relieved by sports massage. Massage therapy helps promote soft tissue healing.
The story goes on
After a marathon, a runner can suffer from light stress and micro-tears in muscle tissue. The massage, which usually lasts no more than 15 minutes, also helps to speed up the body’s recovery process. In fact, many charities supported the marathon with these post-race massage and treatment options. Bryson himself was introduced to osteopathy through a rugby injury, which eventually led him to do a Masters in Osteopathy from Leeds Beckett University. He is an invaluable member of the Reflex team as he is always considerate of the needs of their patients during their recovery process and helps them every step of the way.
