PREP RECRUITING: Cleary Receives a Scholarship from Birmingham Southern

SOCIAL CIRCLE, Ga. — Redskins linebacker Tucker Cleary recently signed his scholarship with Birmingham Southern and continued his football career at the collegiate level.

Signing the deal at Social Circle High School’s media center, Cleary expressed confidence that he would sign to become a Panther.

“Birmingham Southern felt like home to me as soon as I got there,” Cleary said. “The people were all super nice and welcoming. The campus made me feel at home and I’ve made friends with a lot of the students and athletes down there.”

Cleary said when he visited the campus he fell in love with the size of the school as well as the opportunity to meet and socialize with the current players.

Still, Cleary acknowledged the influence Social Circle had on him as he prepared for his next move.

“Social Circle taught me a lot as the coaches and players kept me motivated,” Cleary said. “They showed me that if you keep going through the bad, there will be a lot of good in the end. Social Circle was the biggest thing that happened in my life.”

In addition to being a defensive linebacker for the Redskins, Cleary was also a member of the Redskins’ wrestling team. This allowed Cleary to be coached by numerous coaches during his time as a Redskin.

With this, Cleary paid tribute to all the coaches who have helped him along the way.

“Coach Patton and they definitely took me to the next level,” Cleary said. “You pushed me like no one else. You challenged me like no other. You definitely clarified my mind better than anyone else.”

Cleary plans to study exercise science to pursue a degree in chiropractic at Birmingham Southern University.

But leaving the Redskins’ football and wrestling programs comes with a bittersweet feeling for Cleary.

“I’m definitely going to miss all the boys and coaches,” Cleary said. “They are more than just teammates, they are all family. We all have close ties to each other and we all play around and talk like brothers. They will be brothers to me forever.”
