BISMARCK, ND (AP) – The US Air Force is planning a massive training exercise over the Northern Prairie States.

The Bismarck Tribune reported Monday that the maneuvers are scheduled for July 19-23 in the sky over the Powder River Training Complex. The training area is the largest in the continental United States. It covers nearly 35,000 square miles of air space over the Dakotas, Montana, and Wyoming.

Officials at Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota say several types of aircraft will be involved in the drills and non-military aircraft should avoid the area. Residents have to expect loud noises.

The Federal Aviation Administration approved the quadrupling of the training airspace in 2015. In September of the same year, the expanded complex was officially opened. The first large-scale exercises took place in December.
