Benton County evacuation drill planned to teach emergency preparedness

CORVALLIS, Oregon – Benton County is hosting a large-scale evacuation drill on Saturday to provide community members with hands-on experience in the event of a real evacuation.

The exercise is being led by the Corvallis Fire Department and Benton County Sheriff’s Office. Several neighborhoods in Benton County will be participating.

The exercise starts at 9 a.m. and lasts until 12 p.m.

Mass notifications are sent via Linn-Benton Alert and Corvallis Alert in order to carry out the evacuation steps with “Ready-Set-Go”.

  • The first warning – Level 1, Be Ready – was sent on June 18 at 6:00 p.m.
  • The second alarm – Level 2, Get Set – will be sent on June 19th at 8:00 am.
  • The third alarm – Level 3, GO – will be sent on June 19 between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. to signal the start of the evacuation drill.

The warnings are aimed at specific neighborhoods. After the alert is sent, parishioners will be guided through the process of evacuating their homes and traveling to a temporary evacuation site. Then they will report to the emergency management officers.
