Nigerian soldiers

The Nigerian army announced on Saturday that its Sector 5 forces of exercise Golden Dawn, stationed in Enugu, neutralized three unknown armed men who passed a Nigerian police checkpoint along the Okija-Onitsha expressway on October 7, 2021 had attacked.

Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director Army Public Relations, said the brave troops overwhelmed the gunmen with superior firepower and forced them to flee from the scene.

“However, troops pursued them hotly and involved the armed men in an arms duel.

“The 3 gunmen who drove in 2 vehicles (a Hilux and a Hummer bus) finally succumbed to the effective firepower of the troops, while others fled with gunshot wounds.

“Troops also recovered a vehicle and 2 motorcycles while continuing to exploit the general area for the fleeing terrorists.

“Unfortunately, a soldier has paid the highest price for his country.

“The Army Chief of Staff commends the troops for this achievement and urges them to maintain the momentum against all criminal elements operating in the region.

“The COAS also sympathizes with the family of the fallen hero and prays for the calm of his soul.
