That outsider will exercise their team option on reserve center Willie Cauley StoneThis is reported by Shams Charania from The Athletic (Twitter link). The option pays Cauley-Stein $ 4.1 million for the 2021-22 season.
During his second season in Dallas (and the first full season) in the 2020-21 season, Cauley-Stein averaged 5.3 PPG, 4.5 RPG, and 0.8 BPG over 17.1 MPG in 53 games. After being selected by the Kings as the sixth pick from Kentucky in 2015, Cauley-Stein spent his first full NBA season in Sacramento. He enjoyed several productive runs in lottery-linked Kings squads averaging 11.9 PPG, 8.4 RPG, 2.4 APG, and 1.2 SPG during his first – and so far only – year as a full-time entrant, 2018/19.
Then he joined the Warriors as a free agent in 2019, hoping to fill the same two-way, low-use center role within this club’s buzzing offensive that helped JaVale McGee win two Golden State titles. The Warriors exchanged him for the Mavericks in 2020, where he ended this season shortened by the pandemic.
Sticking to Cauley stone seems like a smart, cost-effective bond. At 27, the athletic, rim-rolling tall man would still have untapped advantage and room to grow with Dallas.
