TThe number of UK workers on the payroll rose 356,000 between May and June but has fallen by 206,000 since the pandemic broke, the Bureau of National Statistics (ONS) said.

Around 94,000 jobs have been filled in the accommodation and food sectors, which have been severely affected by the Covid-19 restrictions.

Employment has yet to recover to pre-pandemic levels.

Darren Morgan, director of economic statistics at the Bureau of National Statistics, said: “The labor market continues to recover and the number of employees on the payroll rose sharply again in June.

“However, it is still over 200,000 fewer than pre-pandemic levels while large numbers of workers remain on vacation.”
