FALLS CITY – Annual Outstanding Teacher and Staff Awards of the Year were recently announced at a Fall City School Committee meeting.

Falls City High School Science Teacher Robert Streit is the Outstanding Teacher of the Year.

He is starting his 28th year of apprenticeship at Falls City Public Schools.

Streit was active as a teacher and colleague and served on building and district committees.

Superintendent Tim Hecken vividly described Streit as committed to the academic success and needs of his students. He is a technology leader in the classroom and is always ready to share his technology knowledge with his colleagues.

Mara Dungan is the recipient of the Outstanding Employee of the Year Award.

Dungan is starting her eighth year with the school district. She has served the school district as a special education teacher and is currently the director of nutritional services.

The COVID-19 pandemic threatened food security for the children in our school district from March 2020.

And with less than a week of preparation, the district’s Grab & Go meal program was organized and launched, serving over 600 meals daily from middle school.

Heckenlively: “Dungan and her excellent staff went out of their way to ensure that everyone in the school received a balanced, nutritious meal. The Grab & Go program continued through the summer of 2021, serving nearly 350 meals a day.”
