First Masters in Food Economics started at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine

The Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine & Health Sciences (SCNM; Tempe, AZ) has developed a new course, the Master of Science in Nutrition Business Leadership (MSNBL). The curriculum includes input from experts and thought leaders in the global natural products industry.

“We set out to create a program that was developed by industry for industry, and that is exactly what we did,” said Gena E. Kadar, DC, M, MEdL, CNS, Founding Dean of the SCNM School of Nutrition, in a press release. “The natural products industry is a multi-billion dollar health care industry, and yet there have been no graduate programs from accredited academic institutions to train executives in the sector. We are very excited to offer this degree to develop evidence-based leaders who understand the unique needs of this industry and can assume leadership roles that impact the nutritional and nutritional supplement market. “

The program equips graduates with essential evidence-based knowledge and skills in nutrition and economics. It is aimed at management level professionals and trains them in the areas of nutrition science, supply chain, regulations, leadership and management – all specific to the health food and dietary supplement industries.

The 39 credit program is offered in an online format and can be completed in less than 15 months. The program spans five quarters, with a weekend stay on campus known as the Executive Leadership Experience in the final quarter of the program.
