The opening of the Small Paws Innovation Center makes Hill’s the only pet food company in the US with an innovation center specifically for small and small dogs. It will be a place to study their diets, as well as behaviors, genetics, genomics, and microbiomics to help develop foods that meet the special needs of the small and miniature breeds that make up more than half of domestic dogs in the U.S. whole world make up world.
The Engagement Center will host seminars, training programs, and other activities for thousands of veterinary students and professionals each year.
“Hill’s is pleased to announce the opening of an expansion of our global Pet Nutrition Center to focus on the special needs of small dogs and also reinforce our commitment to those who care for pets through the new innovation center,” said Hill’s President Jesper Nordengaard. “We continually invest in technology and development to meet pet nutritional needs and to learn from veterinarians, clients and caregivers through their experiences. In this way we fulfill our mission to enrich and extend the special relationships between people and their pets and to live our goal of changing lives. “
“This is a great day for the Hill’s team and all the little dogs who will benefit from the innovation. We are especially grateful for that Kansas Executives and the amazing talent in the Animal Health Corridor that help Hill’s be the best at what we do, “added Nordengaard.
The new Small Paws Center will include state-of-the-art facilities and house 80 small dogs under 20 lbs who will benefit from a diet tailored to their specific needs. The center will be dedicated to exceptional veterinary care and will offer a variety of indoor and outdoor activities for the dogs to choose from during the day, including the outdoor play areas at Bark Parks.
“Small dogs are becoming increasingly popular all over the world. Our investment in this specialized facility will help us develop foods with the taste and aesthetics that small dogs prefer and that will work best with their distinctive behavior and physiology, ”said Dave Baloga, Vice President, Science & Technology at Hill’s. “The Small Paws Innovation Center will enable us to better understand their needs and discover new ways to help them live happy, healthy lives.”
