Hays couple Chase and Casey Hammond put their nutritional knowledge to the test.
After earning masters degrees in nutrition last year – Chase from Maryland University of Integrative Health and Casey from the American College of Healthcare Sciences – the Hays couple decided to start their own business to support ultra-endurance Athletes improve their performance.
This company, Ultraverse Supplements, offers a variety of nutritional supplements to improve aerobic endurance and aid recovery in athletes.
“When I was in college and still doing my Masters,” Chase said, “I just started applying that knowledge to endurance sports, and ultra-endurance sports in particular – there really wasn’t anything specifically for ultra-endurance athletes. This is how the idea came about. “
Chase is no newcomer to ultra-endurance sports as he’s been a long-distance runner for about six years and has completed several races over a hundred miles in length.
The supplements Ultraverse now offers are the ones it started using long before business was even possible.
Ultraverse offers two different nutritional supplements – T-30 and Terminus – both of which come in powder form.
T-30 is a caffeine-free endurance supplement designed to be taken daily to help prevent muscle breakdown during long events.
“T-30 is made up of nine different nutritional supplements that are combined into one formula,” said Chase. “I started taking it myself to experiment on myself and I love it. It helped me a lot.”
Terminus is a recovery formula to be taken after a strenuous workout.
“It’s really good for endurance athletes too, as it’s mostly intended for workouts that are an hour or more, or fairly high-intensity workouts,” said Chase.
He and his wife completed their business papers in September and have been working with a manufacturer on the development of the two supplements ever since.
“It took a lot longer than we thought,” said Casey. “We finally got our products about two or three weeks ago, so it was a long process.”
But they already have customers in several states.
“We had clients in Texas, Ohio and Kansas,” said Casey. “We have had good feedback so far.”
Ultraverse is currently entirely web-based, which allows the Hammonds to reach customers across the country. To learn more about the company and its products, visit UltraverseSupplements.com or send an email to [email protected]
While Ultraverse products are tailored to the needs of ultra endurance athletes, many other athletes can benefit from their use as well, according to Chase.
“If you are wondering if this could benefit you, please contact us and we will give you an honest answer,” he said.
The Hammonds have a special for Hays residents that allows locals to get free same-day delivery if an order is placed by 3pm.
Casey said they’d love to see Ultraverse products on store shelves at some point, but they had to start somewhere.
And they look forward to getting the business going in Hays.
“We’re established here,” said Casey. “Chase has been here since 2003. I’ve been here since 2005. We’re here and we don’t want to go.”
