Ark Animal Sanctuary - Week of August 23, 2021

Lorraine Monfils, Special to The County 23 August 2021

The past few months have been challenging for all of the animals we have taken in and which required extensive veterinary care. Three dogs had to be neutered, neutered and vaccinated. One had severe hair loss, severe dental problems, and what is known as an oronasal fistula (he has a hole in his mouth).

The past few months have been challenging for all of the animals we have taken in and which required extensive veterinary care. Three dogs had to be neutered, neutered and vaccinated. One had severe hair loss, severe dental problems, and what is known as an oronasal fistula (he has a hole in his mouth).

We have a cat who is about to have its thyroid removed so it can lead a comfortable life without medication. We took in a mother and four babies, we believe that mother was hit by a car, she had severe bruises on her hind leg that affected her sciatica.

We took in a kitten that had no tail and its flesh was being eaten by maggots. She needed stitches because it was so bad. We also had a cat that needed dental work.

All of these are situations that we couldn’t say “no” to. Once you see these animals, or just hear their stories, you become engaged and cannot leave.

Sometimes it’s overwhelming and we look at the bills and think about how we’re going to do it all. We always find a way and often it’s up to you, our generous supporters. We are committed to helping as many animals as possible.

We’re doing online fundraising for now. We have thought long and hard about resuming our cake sales, and although we know that now is not the best time, given the rising cases of COVID in our small community, we have a cake sales scheduled for Saturday 4th September Taking precautions to make things work a little differently. We’ll have pulled pork, meatballs, and chilli, but everything will be prepackaged. We will also have our regular baked goods. Our prices will be a little higher due to the increasing cost of everything. Everything will be outside and you will ring the doorbell to pay. As a courtesy, we ask you to wear a mask. Our goal is simply to raise money for the animals in the safest way we know. We hope you will come and support us.

We are very proud to announce that we will have a wellness and vaccination clinic in the sanctuary on Saturday 18th September. For more information or to make an appointment, call Lorraine at 532-7387.

Thank you for your continued support and, as always, thank you for reading our column.
