Seedling planted to commemorate the Olympic medal

BHOPAL: A city environmentalist Sunil Dubey planted a sapling of Parijat Har Singar in the grounds of the Shri Mahavir Digambar Jain Temple in Jehangirabad on Thursday to celebrate India’s winning an Olympic ice hockey medal after 41 years.

Dubey, known as the Vriksha Mitra, said that the Parijat tree was believed to have been brought from heaven to earth by Lord Krishna. It is a medicinal herb, the leaves of which can be used to treat sciatica, stomach ailments, diabetes, and high blood pressure.

Dubey said he has so far planted more than 3.25 lakh seedlings in and around the city. During the ongoing happy month of Shravan, he plants bel trees. The leaves of the tree are offered to Lord Shiva.
